Expect to see the unexpected this winter at Steamboat Springs’ Winter Carnival, a celebration of the season that includes everything from shovel sprints to a soda pop slalom. Bundle up and see what our wacky western heritage is all about and have some fun while you’re at it!
This year marks the carnival’s 109th year, and they’re raising the bar; fireworks and a parade won’t be the main events, but mere side acts. That’s right, you won’t want to miss a minute of the wild west, jam-packed schedule running from Febraury 9th through 13th. From morning to night events and activities includes horse-drawn ski races, skiers jumping through fiery hoops, a cross-country obstacle course, snow sculpting, amateur and pro nordic jumps, alpine races, a freestyle air bag jam session, a soda pop slalom, a s’mores family party, a mountain soiree, the donkey jump, an adult shovel race, family duels, and more! To echo the sentiment of event organizers, Steamboat Springs does things differently, and this oldest, continuous Winter Carnival west of the Mississippi capitalizes on that uniqueness. But it wasn’t an event created purely to grab attention; born of humble origins, the Winter Carnival was inspired by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club as a way to help locals cope with cabin fever during the height (and depth) of the Colorado winter. Here at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, we’re proud of the community-minded brilliance growing under our mile high sky. So stay with us and we’ll point your way to all that we have to offer.
