In November 2021, Colorado was identified as the national leader in the LGBTQ equality movement with an overall equality score of 39.5 out of a possible 42.5 points. So it should come as no surprise Colorado Springs is celebrating Pride for three months this summer. Pikes Peak Pride is the third of eight events to get our attention, and we’re excited to tell you all about it!
On the weekend of July 22nd and 23rd, Pikes Peak Pride 2022 will take over downtown Colorado Springs to honor the active and diverse achievements of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities in the Pikes Peak region. Thousands of visitors from across the state and Pikes Peak region are expected to attend and mix with the locals to provide a special opportunity for all LGBTQ+ Coloradans to celebrate their achievements together. Considering Colorado was known as the “Hate State” back in the 1990s, it’s been no small feat to be named a leader in the movement for LGBTQ+ equality. There will be two full days of vendor booths, food trucks, a beer garden, and high-energy entertainment. A parade will take place on Sunday, July 23rd from 11 am to 12 pm on Tejon Street beginning at Acacia Park and ending at the Pioneers Museum. In the words of One Colorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization dedicated to advancing equality for [LGBTQ] Coloradans and their families, Pride serves as a reminder that our work is not finished until we ALL have an equal opportunity to live successful, healthy, authentic lives. And so it goes, that Pikes Peak Pride event organizers created this festival where people can feel safe, accepted, and supported while raising awareness for issues facing LGBTQ+ people living in the Pikes Peak Region.
