If you’re coming to Colorado Springs for Memorial Day weekend, consider extending your stay to include the following Friday, too. Among the many Colorado Springs events in May 2022 and throughout the summer, the First Friday Artwalk is one of our favorites.
On the first Friday of every month between April and December, visitors to Old Colorado City–an historic neighborhood just 15 minutes drive from Cheyenne Mountain Resort– are invited to browse the local art galleries and artist studios along West Colorado Avenue. Beginning at 5 pm, gallery owners and some of the artists themselves open their spaces and roll out the carpet so that passers-by feel welcome to go inside, be curious, and absorb all the art the old city has to offer. Considered a self-guided tour of sorts, the First Friday Artwalk is free to the public, including engaging, live demonstrations and special opportunities to meet the artists.
Of course, if you see something you love, all the gallery pieces, from jewelry and artisan crafts to paintings and pottery, are available for purchase. Make it a night out in Old Colorado City and visit neighboring shops and cafes for a quick bite or refreshing drink. The event is hosted by the more established art galleries in Old Colorado City, like Valez Gallery, and is supported by generous community sponsors. For more information and a map to guide your tour, visit the Old Colorado City website. When you stay with us, at Cheyenne Mountain Resort, just ask at the front desk, and we’ll be happy to guide you there.
